Victim Assistant (PTC)

Provo City is looking for a part‑time contract Victim Assistant to provide paraprofessional liaison work assisting victims of violent crime through social services and the legal system. This position involves supporting individuals who have been victims of domestic violence and other violent crimes. Pay Rate: $21.00 per hour (depending on qualifications).

• Assist and support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, other crimes against persons, and violent crimes.
• Collect information and assist victims in filling out reports, orders of protection, and other documents as needed.
• Advise victims and next‑of‑kin of available resources and programs.
• Assist victims and children through court procedures, including informing them of court dates, case status, nuances of the justice system, scheduling appointments, assisting in preparation of trial testimony, and providing support.
• Attend and coordinate weekly domestic violence court meetings.
• Testify in court as needed and provide recommendations to the court on reparations and restitution.
• Attend daily police briefings.
• Notify next‑of‑kin in cases involving death.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or related field.
• Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of related education/experience; one year of post‑secondary education/training substitutes for six months of experience.
• One year of experience in crisis intervention, victim assistance, law enforcement, social services, or related field.
• Valid, lawful driver license.

The schedule for this position is typically 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with occasional variations. All victim advocates are part of an on‑call rotation providing after‑hours responses one week per month. This position is grant‑funded and contracted. The contract is for one year but may extend thereafter based on funding.

This position requires sitting at a desk or computer for long periods, maintaining concentrated attention to detail, speaking and listening in exchanges of information, and occasional motor vehicle travel. Work is primarily inside with occasional on‑scene travel. The role involves regular exposure to situations that may affect psychological or physiological health due to the stressful nature and scope of assisting crime victims and high‑stress situations, including contact with the public in emotionally charged situations, infrequent exposure to adverse weather, and response to situations at all times of the day.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration. If selected for hire, candidates must successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non‑disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results are ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six months.
