Role Overview :
The Day Supervisor – Coil Shop provides direct leadership and oversight for all day-shift operations within the Coil Department. This position is responsible for ensuring production goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards for quality and culture. The Day Supervisor partners closely with Assistant Supervisors, Team Leaders, and support departments to drive continuous improvement, maintain workflow, and foster employee engagement.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to balance daily operations and long-term performance objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide daily leadership and direction to Assistant Supervisors and Team Leaders to ensure production schedules and quality standards are met.

Lead safety compliance efforts and partner with the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) department to maintain a safe work environment.

Monitor throughput, scrap rates, and labor utilization to ensure department goals and KPIs are achieved.

Serve as the escalation point for personnel issues, production delays, or process disruptions.

Support and develop frontline leaders through coaching, feedback, and ongoing performance discussions.

Drive a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the department.

Partner with Engineering, Scheduling, and Maintenance teams to resolve production issues and improve manufacturing flow.

Conduct daily shift meetings to communicate priorities, changes, and safety messages.

Maintain awareness of equipment condition and ensure preventive maintenance needs are reported timely.

Evaluate and recommend process improvements that increase efficiency, safety, and product quality.

Assist in recruiting, training, and onboarding new team members as needed.

Ensure compliance with company policies, labor guidelines, and operational procedures.

Complete and submit required reports related to production, attendance, and performance metrics.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Desired Qualifications

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical coursework preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment.

Demonstrated success in managing large teams and multiple production areas.

Skills:

Strong leadership, planning, and decision-making abilities.

Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.

Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and continuous improvement practices.

Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and compliance requirements.

Proficiency with ERP systems (IFS preferred) and Microsoft Office applications.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Certificates, Licenses, or Training:

Leadership development and OSHA 10-hour certification preferred.

Interaction with Others:
Reports directly to the Plant Manager and collaborates daily with Assistant Supervisors, Team Leaders, and department staff. This position also interfaces regularly with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Scheduling, Maintenance, and Safety to ensure production alignment with company objectives. The Day Supervisor must maintain professionalism, integrity, and clear communication in all interactions, fostering trust and teamwork across all levels of the organization.
