The Chemical Operator (Loader) role involves loading and unloading trucks and railcars safely and efficiently. Key tasks include verifying loading schedules, inspecting vehicles for mechanical issues, wearing required PPE, and following proper procedures to connect hoses and transfer products. The worker ensures accurate weight measurements and compliance with safety regulations, communicates issues to supervisors, and completes necessary paperwork. Additional duties include operating equipment such as a trac-mobile and forklift, performing safety checks, maintaining cleanliness, completing required training, and submitting daily reports.

• Matches loading schedule to bill of lading.
• Weighs railcar/truck prior to product transfer.
• Fills out loading record.
• Ensures that truck/railcar is positioned and secured at proper loading rack.
• Visually inspects the railcar or truck to be involved in the upcoming transfer in order to ensure that it is mechanically sound and there is no defective equipment before loading or unloading.
• Wears all protective clothing and equipment, including respirator and fresh air equipment that may be required to transfer the product in a manner that ensures maximum personal safety.
• Connects loading hoses.
• Loads railcar/truck according to loading instructions using gauges, loading meters, or weight.
• Checks weight of railcar/truck after loading to ensure that gross weight does not exceed regulations.
• Communicates with facility supervisor on any problems as they occur.
• Disconnects loading arm/hose, inspects for any leaks, and completes required paperwork prior to releasing the railcar/truck.
• Operates trac-mobile to move and position railcars for loading and shipment.
• Regularly cleans and maintains work areas.
• Operates forklift and other equipment as required if qualified.
• Completes regular safety checks on machinery and equipment.
• Completes all required LMS training modules.
• Collects and submits all daily reports and paperwork and turns it in to the Board Operator.
• Completes any other duties that may be assigned in order to complete the job.

Operators work two shifts in a rotation pattern:

• 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM (day shift) OR 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM (night shift).

Example 4-week Shift Pattern:

• 3 days on Day shift
• 1 day off
• 3 days on Night shift
• 3 days off
• 4 days on Day shift
• 7 days off
• 4 days on Night shift
• 3 days off

In addition to this schedule, there may be instances where mandatory overtime is required that may disrupt the usual shift rotation. Overtime averages 10-15% (approximately 2 shifts per 4-week rotation).

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (i.e., GED).
• 1 year of related experience (preferred, not required).
• Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrate basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills.

• Must be tolerant and non-allergic to exposure to ammonia, chemical, and acid fumes.
• While performing job duties, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
