Overview
Performs a variety of accounting functions, including analysis of data from departments/offices and outside clients in accordance with compliance to GAAP, GASB, federal, state, and local policies and procedures; preparation of journals; preparation of statements and schedules for the annual audit; and reconciliation of the General Ledger.
Responsibilities- Maintains general ledger system by preparing original and correcting journal entries to ensure all financial data is included and balanced. Reviews, balances, and reconciles accounts, making adjustments, corrections, and journal entries as appropriate; prepares periodic reports, special reports, and statements; reviews accounts payable vouchers to ensure accounts payable processes and GAAP/GASB compliance.
- Compiles data from accounting and fiscal records to prepare summaries, lists, and similar reports, including the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and other significant management reports.
- Prepares and maintains budget accounts and prepares budget forecasts as requested.
- Assists auditors with review of financial records in order to establish the financial condition of the County, and maintains a high standard for bond reporting.
- Traces discrepancies in accounts, financial documents, data entries, reports, and records; performs corrections.
- Creates and maintains computer spreadsheets for posting, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting financial information.
- Reconciles cash accounts, bank statements, and outstanding warrants, including access to bank accounts, to ensure ACH deposits are recorded.
- Works directly with departments on accounting issues and communicates with various County and State employees regarding grants/payments.
- Prepares and distributes monthly expenditure reports and/or appropriate notifications to all County departments.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
- Minimum of two (2) years or more in professional accounting that includes responsibility in handling a variety of accounting operations (required).
