Provide instructional support for ESS students, developing academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills. Operate in accordance with district policies, maintain a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.
Essential Responsibilities- Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.
- Employ special education strategies and techniques during instruction to improve sensory, perceptual, motor, language, cognition, and memory development.
- Consult with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Instruct students in academic subjects using techniques such as phonetics, multisensory learning, and repetition.
- Teach socially acceptable behavior as determined by IEPs, employing positive behavioral support.
- Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding adaptations, modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior plans, and other interventions.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time.
- Assess student progress and determine need for additional reinforcement or adjustments.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures to maintain an environment conducive to learning.
- Meet with parents to discuss progress and priorities.
- Schedule team meetings and work with child study team members for instructional goals and strategies.
- Maintain accurate student records and prepare reports for laws, district policies, and regulations.
- Establish objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to students.
- Develop plans for communication, monitoring, and follow‑up in inclusive classroom settings.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed for students and inclusive classrooms.
- Assist in collecting and preparing data for appropriate classroom interventions and reports.
- Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by Building or Program Administrators.
- Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days of hire.
- Endorsement in applicable teaching level (Elementary or Secondary).
- Highly qualified in ESS through:
- Endorsement on a Colorado teaching license in Special Education Generalist or related options.
- 36 semester credit hours applicable to content area.
- Passing score on a State Board of Education approved content exam (currently the ETS Praxis Series).
- Eligibility for Teacher in Residence (TIR) or Alternative Licensing Program in content area.
- Complete fingerprint‑based criminal background check and clearance by the Office of Human Resources.
- Effective communication in English, orally and in writing, with proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Experience in a Title I or low‑income setting.
- Experience with AVID implementation.
- Experience with Teach Like A Champion Strategies.
- Previous experience as a certified teacher.
- Thorough knowledge of special education principles and procedures.
