SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONSAll Freed classroom teachers are expected to plan, organize, and implement an expeditionary learning instructional program and create a dynamic and creative learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Expeditionary learning involves frequent fieldwork, learning both indoors and outdoors, and may include occasional overnight learning experiences with students. Classroom teachers perform instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and the teacher contract and are expected to maintain a collaborative and inclusive relationship with staff, parents, and students.
QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for the role.
REQUIRED- Teacher must be highly qualified through the following options:
- Elementary or Content‑appropriate teaching license
- Be eligible for a TiR or Alternative Licensing Program in appropriate area
- Teacher must be willing to adopt and teach within the philosophy and practices of the expeditionary learning model
- Employee must complete a fingerprint‑based criminal background check and be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, with proper grammar and vocabulary
- Teachers hired in a K‑3 or Reading Interventionist position must be willing to register for the READ Act training required per Senate Bill 199‑99 and show evidence of enrollment and progress in a CDE‑approved training course completed within the 2023‑2024 school year or provide a certificate of completion
- Previous experience in an expeditionary learning (EL) school
- Previous experience as a certified teacher
- Additional teaching endorsements such as Early Literacy, CLDE, ESS, and/or other content‑specific areas
- Knowledge and understanding of Colorado State standards
- Ability to unpack standards and align them with curriculum
- Ability to write specific learning goals, objectives and outcomes
- Ability to analyze and use multiple data sources to make sound instructional planning decisions
