The primary responsibility of the Secondary Literacy Specialist is to coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the District instructional program with an emphasis on developing 21st century skills. The Specialist provides curriculum and assessment design and assists teachers in preparing effective lesson plans, presenting content, and managing classrooms. The Specialist demonstrates best practices through lesson demonstrations, teacher observations, reflective sessions, PLC facilitation, and professional development activities.
QualificationsRequired
- Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from hire date
- Endorsement/Credentials in English Language Arts
- Master’s Degree in Education or a related field
- Five years of successful teaching experience in English Language Arts
- Valid Colorado Driver License
- Completed a fingerprint-based criminal background check cleared by Human Resources
- Effective written and oral communication in English
- Previous coaching experience
- Master’s Degree in education or related field
- 3–5 years of secondary English, Humanities, or Social Studies teaching experience
- Experience with district curriculum and assessment development
- Experience coaching teachers and/or facilitating professional development
- Experience leading data teams or PLCs
- Experience developing scope and sequence documents
- Experience in Pueblo School District No. 60 curriculum adoption process
- In‑depth understanding of state standards, curriculum, and assessment programs in English Language Arts
- Success in using data to improve instruction
- Ability to prepare and deliver research‑based professional development
- Effective communication within the district and with the community
- Organizational and planning skills for setting short‑term and long‑range goals
- Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative relationship building
- Initiative to work independently and in groups

- Direct contact with classroom teachers for data review, co‑planning, co‑teaching, and real‑time coaching

- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with objectives for all students
- Performs duties as assigned by supervisor or designee
- Coach teacher leaders, teachers, and administrators on district initiatives, intervention programming, pedagogy, and instruction improvements
- Collaborate with principals to support teacher development and improvement
- Review assessment results and aid in developing improvement plans
- Lead and facilitate curriculum design and assessment processes
- Assist teachers in using assessment data to plan instruction
- Assist teachers in developing and implementing classroom management and behavior intervention plans
- Provide direct contact for classroom teachers: data review, co‑planning, co‑teaching, real‑time coaching, and instruction modeling
- Provide professional development in curriculum and ancillary materials
- Participate in textbook adoption and local assessment development
- Integrate technology into instruction
- Facilitate District and school‑based professional development and data meetings
- Identify, acquire, and organize resources for teachers, students, and schools
- Employ instructional strategies in scope and sequence documents to meet student needs
- Develop scope and sequence and assessment documents
- Coaching secondary English and Social Studies teachers
- Strong knowledge of English Language Arts Common Core standards and instructional shifts
- Knowledge of Social Studies standards, including recent Colorado Standards
