Job Description
The Special Education Teacher at KIPP Colorado is the instructional leader of their student caseload and is directly responsible for driving student outcomes and creating an exceptional student experience. Teachers develop daily instruction aligned with KIPP’s academic program, plan and deliver lessons, grade fairly and consistently, and implement all accommodations and modifications outlined in students’ IEPs, 504 plans, BIPs, and MTSS interventions.
The role requires building a culturally responsive classroom community, managing Tier‑1 behaviors, collaborating with campus leadership, and maintaining open, proactive communication with families.
- Plan, organize, and deliver rigorous instruction that aligns with KIPP’s academic program and students’ individualized plans.
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and interventions for students with IEPs, 504 plans, BIPs, and MTSS supports.
- Manage a culturally responsive classroom community that is warm‑demanding, meeting high expectations for academic work and behavior.
- Provide professional supervision, intentional monitoring, and strategic presence to ensure student safety and engagement.
- Serve as a positive contributor to grade or functional teams, collaborating on shared goals and initiatives.
- Assist with staff and student recruitment, outreach events, and related duties as assigned.
- Participate in professional development, school‑wide and organization‑wide meetings, and the weekly coaching process.
- Maintain accurate records, grade books, and data tracking systems.
- Perform lunch duty, arrival/dismissal duty, restroom duty, and other support tasks as needed.
- Attend school functions and community events outside of school hours (e.g., Back to School Night, Report Card Conferences).
- Maintain and advocate for Iowa School Policies and Procedures manual compliance.
- Provide case management for the special education caseload, ensuring timely completion of IEPs, BIPs, and FBAs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to integrate support plans and classroom accommodations.
- Leverage data to adjust short‑ and long‑term instructional plans and monitor student progress.
- Use Google Suite and Microsoft Suite tools for lesson planning, communication, and documentation.
- Manage time‑sensitive professional obligations and maintain strong attendance.
- Participate in strategic supervision and monitoring to maintain a safe and rigorous learning environment.
- Bachelor’s degree (required).
- Special Education license or Texas Educator Examination (TEE) through the Colorado Department of Education (required).
- Ability and willingness to meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) criteria (required).
- Ability to work after‑school, evenings, and weekends (required).
- Proficiency with technology tools (Google Suite, Microsoft Office).
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

- Spanish bilingual (preferred).
- At least two years of teaching experience (highly preferred).
- Competitive salary starting at $65,015, commensurate with experience.
