Job Title: ESS Special Education Generalist Teacher – ISEC Social Emotional Communication Classroom

Work Year: 165 days

Department: Teaching and Learning Services

Reports To: School Principal

Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule

Additional Stipend: $5,000

Benefits: Fringe Benefits based on PEA Negotiated Agreement

Status: FLSA Exempt

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The ISEC Special Education Generalist Teacher provides instructional support to ESS students, fostering academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills. The teacher maintains a collaborative attitude with staff, parents, and students, and delivers instruction in accordance with district policies and contract terms.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Colorado teaching license within 60 days from date of hire.
  • Endorsement in applicable level of teaching (Elementary or Secondary) for ESS Generalist.
  • High qualification in ESS through one of the following:
    • Special Education Generalist or Special Education Specialist endorsement.
    • Trainable Child or Educable Mentally Handicapped, Multi‑handicapped, Severe Needs Cognitive, or Profound Needs endorsement.
  • Minimum of three (3) years teaching in ESS Special Education.
  • Completion of a fingerprint‑based criminal background check and clearance by the Office of Human Resources.
  • Proficient in English communication, both oral and written.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in writing and implementing behavior plans.
  • Knowledge of social, emotional, behavioral, and communication needs of students.
  • Skill in classroom management and behavior assessment interpretation.
  • Ability to establish daily routines and maintain clear communication.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Deep understanding of special education principles and procedures.
  • Effective teaching methodology for students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of school rules, regulations, and behavioral standards.
  • Ability to deliver oral presentations and written reports.
  • Proficiency with educational technology such as iPads.
  • Compliance with professional teacher education requirements.
  • Experience with students with ADD and emotional disabilities.
  • Reliability in attendance and punctuality.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support in a positive environment.
  • Implement special education strategies to enhance sensory, motor, language, cognitive, and memory development.
  • Collaborate with parents, administrators, and specialists to develop and implement IEPs.
  • Instruct students in academic subjects using varied techniques (phonetics, multisensory learning, repetition).
  • Teach socially appropriate behavior per IEPs using positive behavior support.
  • Consult with classroom teachers on adaptations, modifications, adaptive equipment, and behavior plans.
  • Plan and conduct instructional and activity sessions that encourage observation, inquiry, and exploration.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Establish and enforce behavioral rules and procedures.
  • Meet with parents to discuss progress and educational needs.
  • Schedule and participate in team meetings, collaborating on instructional goals.
  • Maintain accurate student records and prepare reports as required by law and district policy.
  • Communicate clear lesson objectives to students.
  • Serve as primary parent contact for communication and follow‑up.
  • Provide crisis intervention when needed.
  • Assist in data collection for classroom interventions and reporting.
  • Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Standing, walking, sitting, using hands, using computer, hearing, speaking, reaching, climbing stairs. Maximum weight 75 lbs. May require pushing/pulling equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

School/office environment with natural and fluorescent lighting; fast‑paced; frequent interruptions; may involve moving students and equipment, positioning in specialized equipment, changing diapers, and physical interaction with students who have physical behavior challenges.
