SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONSThe ISEC Special Education Generalist Teacher provides instructional support to ESS students, fostering academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills. The teacher maintains a collaborative attitude with staff, parents, and students, and delivers instruction in accordance with district policies and contract terms.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Valid Colorado teaching license within 60 days from date of hire.
- Endorsement in applicable level of teaching (Elementary or Secondary) for ESS Generalist.
- High qualification in ESS through one of the following:
- Special Education Generalist or Special Education Specialist endorsement.
- Trainable Child or Educable Mentally Handicapped, Multi‑handicapped, Severe Needs Cognitive, or Profound Needs endorsement.
- Minimum of three (3) years teaching in ESS Special Education.
- Completion of a fingerprint‑based criminal background check and clearance by the Office of Human Resources.
- Proficient in English communication, both oral and written.
- Experience in writing and implementing behavior plans.
- Knowledge of social, emotional, behavioral, and communication needs of students.
- Skill in classroom management and behavior assessment interpretation.
- Ability to establish daily routines and maintain clear communication.
- Deep understanding of special education principles and procedures.
- Effective teaching methodology for students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of school rules, regulations, and behavioral standards.
- Ability to deliver oral presentations and written reports.
- Proficiency with educational technology such as iPads.
- Compliance with professional teacher education requirements.
- Experience with students with ADD and emotional disabilities.
- Reliability in attendance and punctuality.
- Provide direct and indirect instructional support in a positive environment.
- Implement special education strategies to enhance sensory, motor, language, cognitive, and memory development.
- Collaborate with parents, administrators, and specialists to develop and implement IEPs.
- Instruct students in academic subjects using varied techniques (phonetics, multisensory learning, repetition).
- Teach socially appropriate behavior per IEPs using positive behavior support.
- Consult with classroom teachers on adaptations, modifications, adaptive equipment, and behavior plans.
- Plan and conduct instructional and activity sessions that encourage observation, inquiry, and exploration.
- Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Establish and enforce behavioral rules and procedures.
- Meet with parents to discuss progress and educational needs.
- Schedule and participate in team meetings, collaborating on instructional goals.
- Maintain accurate student records and prepare reports as required by law and district policy.
- Communicate clear lesson objectives to students.
- Serve as primary parent contact for communication and follow‑up.
- Provide crisis intervention when needed.
- Assist in data collection for classroom interventions and reporting.
- Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
Standing, walking, sitting, using hands, using computer, hearing, speaking, reaching, climbing stairs. Maximum weight 75 lbs. May require pushing/pulling equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONSSchool/office environment with natural and fluorescent lighting; fast‑paced; frequent interruptions; may involve moving students and equipment, positioning in specialized equipment, changing diapers, and physical interaction with students who have physical behavior challenges.
