Overview
Pueblo City-County Library District is hiring a part-time Program and Outreach Specialist (20 hours per week). This role plans and conducts library programs, builds community partnerships, and provides excellent customer service. The position involves outreach to the community, visiting outside agencies or library locations, and assisting customers with borrowing and researching library materials using library resources.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Plan and carry out public educational, cultural, and creative programs and events for adults, teens, and children within PCCLD’s mission and goals. Coordinate programs with experts and participate as a storyteller, actor, instructor, facilitator, or presenter as appropriate.
- Provide hospitality and customer assistance at the point of need; greet customers, help locate materials, and offer reader’s advisory services. Proactively provide information to promote circulation and program attendance.
- Build partnerships with individuals and organizations in the community related to library programming.
- Instruct customers on use of the library’s computers and digital resources; stay current on new resources.
- Explain library regulations and procedures and resolve basic customer issues.
- Compile program and event statistics, prepare reports, maintain program data, and perform administrative duties.
- May act as Person-in-Charge (PIC) in the branch in the absence of the manager or assistant manager to respond to escalated customer service, emergency, or security issues.
- Assist in training of new employees and volunteers; may oversee work for volunteers and special projects as assigned by manager.
- Assist in the collection development process by evaluating, suggesting, and weeding materials.
- Support team efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and staff by following safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in department meetings and training to stay current on PCCLD information.
- Read daily communications from intranet, e-mail, newsletters, and print announcements; stay current on services, programs, and events; regularly access timekeeping and personnel systems.
- Cross-train and provide back-up coverage for other department positions.
- May serve on library committees and special projects.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Education and Experience
:
- Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of one year of related experience.
- Experience planning and executing library, community, school, or other programs and events is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
:
- Strong orientation toward teaching, education, and learning.
- Excellent hospitality skills with the ability to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Knowledge and experience in developing engaging programs and outreach activities.
- Ability to take initiative and own projects; use independent judgment within procedural boundaries and solve problems.
- Creative planning skills for developing programs; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of library research methods and comfort with using digital resources and technology.
- Willingness to adapt to flexible and changing conditions; detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, listening, and problem-solving skills; comfortable with public speaking and diverse populations.
Physical Requirements
:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull a fully loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds.
Other Requirements
:
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends. Must submit to and successfully pass a criminal background investigation.
Wage
: $18.49 per hour
