ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Since Columbine High School opened in 1973, we have established strong traditions and a culture of Rebel Pride. This pride is rooted in the fact that we are a close‑knit family and community of learners. We are committed to high standards of learning for all students, valuing each and every member of our school community. We emphasize building strong relationships with every student.

We expect personal and collective responsibility and promote high levels of engagement and performance in learning, which results in future life success.

Presently, Columbine serves 1,700 students as a comprehensive high school in a suburban setting. Approximately, 26 % of the student population is free and reduced, 31 % is minority, 2.8 % ELL, and 8.8 % are enrolled in special education services. The gifted and ALP population is 15 %. Our goal is to challenge each student and provide academic interventions for them when they do not understand.

We have a strong Advanced Placement program in which over 400 of our students take courses annually. In addition, we offer an AP Capstone Diploma, which we are one of only a handful offered in the state. Special Education students and second language learners have the support of a caring and experienced staff. We are also working on implementing classes in which students can explore career pathways.

We have a strong music program which includes vocal music and instrumental music. We have a theatre program in which students have the opportunity to participate in two plays, a musical and one act plays; students may also choose from numerous clubs to pursue their individual interests.
