PRE-EMPLOYMENTREQUIREMENT
The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.
RESPONSIBILITIESSUMMARY:
Provide individual or small group instructional support to visually impaired student(s) in/out of the classroom by modifying classroom materials, ordering Braille educational materials, creating tactile models, and other supports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Attend classes with students and assist with access to information being presented via overhead projector/screen or white board. Rewrite problems in larger text, read aloud, help with notes, and give assistance in navigating classroom environment.
- Order large print/braille versions of textbooks, monitor which volumes are needed currently from the set that corresponds with the regular student version.
- Order, pick-up and deliver to students, existing sight-modified materials such as models or maps from SPED resource library.
- Use software and embosser to convert worksheets, assignments, and quizzes to Braille for students. Use software to convert Braille back to written English.
- Recreate charts, models, and other visual information presented to students as photos/images into a tactile version either by hand using foam cutouts and other art supplies or using machinery such at Thermoform.
- Coordinate with Visual Disability Teachers about student needs and academic success.
- May be required to visit multiple schools per day, depending on where low-vision/blind students attend school.
- Attend departmental meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
High School diploma/GED required, related course work through a recognized business, vocational or community college preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
2+ years' experience working directly with students (preferably with low-vision/blind/special needs). Previous experience working with computer office software including Office Suite, PDF, scanners, etc.
