ESS Special Education Generalist Teacher – ISEC Social Emotional Communication Classroom

Summary of Functions

The primary responsibility of the ISEC (Intense Social Emotional Communication) Special Education Generalist Teacher is to provide support to the instructional process by developing ESS students’ success in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily learning. Performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and the terms of the teacher contract. The Teacher also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students.

The Pueblo District 60 Innovation Zone consists of seven unique schools that provide educators with the opportunity to engage in teaching and learning that is equally challenging and rewarding. Innovation Zone teachers:

  • Create genuine and meaningful relationships with students.
  • Recognize that each student is unique and believe that every student can be successful.
  • Engage with colleagues to design and implement high‑quality instruction.
  • Pioneer new ideas and approaches to teaching and learning that can be shared throughout the district.
  • Adopt a growth mindset, overcome barriers, and remain persistent in their pursuit of student success.

Throughout the year, teachers within the Innovation Zone will:

  • Collaborate with colleagues throughout their school and within the zone.
  • Build community through professional development and social events and activities.
  • Participate in additional zone‑specific “innovation days” during the school year.
Qualifications Required
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire.
  • Endorsement in applicable level of teaching (Elementary or Secondary) – ESS Generalist.
  • Teacher must be highly qualified in ESS through the following options:
    • Endorsement on a Colorado teaching license in Special Education Generalist or Special Education Specialist Endorsement or Trainable Child or Educable Mentally Handicapped, Multi‑handicapped, Severe Needs Cognitive, Profound Needs.
  • Minimum of three (3) years teaching in ESS Special Education.
  • Employee must complete a fingerprint‑based criminal background check and be cleared by the Office of Human Resources.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
Preferred
  • Experience in writing and implementing behavior plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the social, emotional, behavioral, and communication needs of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with classroom management.
  • Demonstrated ability to administer and interpret behavior assessments to create effective behavior plans using research strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish daily routines and consistency in the classroom.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain clear communication.
