Position Summary

RSI is recruiting for a Project Hydrogeologist who will support our Groundwater Program for U.S. Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management projects. The Project Hydrogeologist will assist with and lead portions of projects involving groundwater and contaminant characterization, conceptual site model development, long‑term monitoring, and remedial performance evaluations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multidisciplinary groundwater and environmental projects with support from Senior Staff.
  • Manage projects, including development of scopes of work to address groundwater issues, creation of associated budgets, schedules, and staffing plans to execute work.
  • Perform acquisition, organization, and analysis of environmental field data, groundwater evaluations including modeling, statistical and geostatistical evaluations, and conceptual site model development.
  • Support or lead development of complex numerical flow and transport models to develop groundwater compliance strategies and assess their performance.
  • Lead development of project documents and presentations under supervision of Senior Staff.
  • Support and mentor staff.
  • Interface with senior management, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required

Education and Experience
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in hydrogeology, engineering, geology, or related physical sciences field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Professional Geologist (P.G.) or Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred but not required.

Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expertise in field characterization.
  • Experience overseeing well drilling, coring/sampling, and monitoring well installation.
  • Expertise in data acquisition and evaluation.
  • Proficient with scientific software including ArcGIS, Python, R, and others.
  • Expertise in MODFLOW or other relevant groundwater modeling software preferred.
  • Developing expertise in conceptual site model development.
  • Developing knowledge of statistics and geo‑statistics.
  • Developing expertise in three‑dimensional visualization and evaluation.
  • Developing expertise in programming and scripting.
  • Introductory knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and geophysics.
  • Developing knowledge of remedial design and evaluation.
  • Preliminary knowledge of regulations and standard requirements.
  • Preliminary knowledge of groundwater flow and contaminant transport fundamentals.
  • Ability to learn and implement integrated work control processes, readiness reviews, health and safety, and field project closeouts.
  • Experience with project management functions (scope, schedule, and budget), including subcontractor oversight.
Travel Requirement

Required to travel 10% of the time.

Salary Range

$90,000.00 – $ per year. Salary is based on selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.

  • Fit for duty test (if applicable).

Physical Requirements

Medium:
Work involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above‑negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
