The Field Services Section addresses technical and regulatory issues related to compliance assistance and assurance for drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities. Activities include compliance evaluation inspections, sanitary surveys, technical assistance, regulation and policy development, and provision of technical services supporting the Water Quality Control Division’s programs.
What You'll Be DoingThis role is reclassified as Engineer in Training I, an entry-level engineering position. The employee will be trained under the direct supervision of a PEII unit manager and will perform and assist in managing the broadest array of field-based engineering tasks and projects:
- Field engineering evaluations of drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities for consistency with approved designs.
- Engineering evaluations of facility operations and performance.
- Compliance inspections for drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Field response and support of spills and drinking water emergencies.
- Enforcement and other technical, field-based compliance assurance support.
- Operator and other training support.
- Assistance to the public and regulated facilities.
- Field Engineering and Field-Based Compliance Assurance.
- Respond to Inquiries.
- Technical and Compliance Assistance.
This class series uses seven levels in the Physical Sciences and Engineering Occupational Group and describes professional level work in an engineering specialty. Engineering involves the use of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and engineering sciences, including principles and methods of engineering analysis and design in specific disciplines.
QualificationsThere are two ways to qualify:
Current enrollment as an Engineer-Intern by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors, or current valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the same board.
NOTE: An applicant may meet the minimum qualifications through work experience alone or via a combination of education and work experience. Experience must be substantiated within the Work Experience section of your application. “See Resume” will not be accepted. Part‑time work will be prorated.
Preferred Qualifications and Essential Competencies- Experience in water quality engineering design related to wastewater or drinking water treatment.
- Effective communication and coordination skills with customers, stakeholders, and public water systems.
- High standards of honesty, integrity, trust, openness and respect for individuals.
- Exhibits courtesy, tact, empathy, concern; manages and resolves conflicts constructively.
- Experience conducting technical reviews.
- Ability to evaluate engineering and mathematical theories, concepts, and principles for applicability.
- Ability to apply engineering, operational, financial, and planning concepts to planned facility functionality.
- Strong independent and team critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in writing policy or guidance documents.
