Commissioning Engineer

Voyager is an innovative space, defense, and national security technology company committed to advancing and delivering transformative, mission-critical solutions. We tackle the most complex challenges to unlock new frontiers for human progress, fortify national security, and protect critical assets to lead in the race for technological and operational superiority from ground to space.

The Commissioning Engineer will be located onsite in Pueblo, CO, and reports to the Mission Infrastructure Engineering Manager. This role supports the commissioning lifecycle for Voyager Energetics — contributing to planning, testing, documentation, and operational handoff across facility and infrastructure projects — working closely with senior engineers, contractors, and cross-functional teams. With 3–5 years of hands-on experience in commissioning, systems verification, or a closely related field, this individual brings a strong technical foundation, a detail-oriented mindset, and the drive to take on increasing ownership in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment — with a clear growth path toward greater technical leadership within the MIE group.

In this role, the essential functions are:

  • Support the commissioning lifecycle across facility and infrastructure projects — contributing to commissioning plans, test scripts, and acceptance criteria under the direction of senior engineers, and building familiarity with the full process from design review through functional verification and operational handoff.
  • Participate in design and construction phase reviews — working alongside Facility Design Engineers, Process Engineers, Automation & Controls Engineers, Safety, and Compliance teams to understand commissioning requirements and flag potential installation or operational issues early.
  • Maintain active presence on the construction site during the build phase — supporting the general contractor, subcontractors, and Project Engineers in witnessing critical installations, verifying that equipment and systems are installed per design and specification, and contributing to punch list generation and tracking through to mechanical completion.
  • Support pre-functional and functional testing across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, HVAC, utility, and process control systems — assisting in executing test protocols, documenting results, and tracking deficiencies through to closure.
  • Engage hands-on throughout all phases of commissioning — working directly alongside contractors, subcontractors, technicians, controls engineers, and vendor representatives to troubleshoot issues as they arise and support collaborative solutions that keep the project moving without compromising safety or quality.
  • Assist in maintaining commissioning documentation — including test records, punch list logs, deficiency reports, and as-commissioned facility records — and support operational handoff by contributing to training materials and system verification packages for operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with all MIE disciplines and project stakeholders throughout the commissioning process — building technical knowledge in systems verification, hazardous facility commissioning, and regulatory requirements, with a clear growth path toward greater ownership and independent leadership of commissioning scopes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with 3 years of experience in commissioning, systems verification, construction, or a related field OR 7 years of hands-on experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience participating in or supporting commissioning, startup, or systems testing activities in an industrial, construction, or manufacturing environment — including familiarity with pre-functional and functional testing processes.
  • Working knowledge of construction documentation and field verification practices — including the ability to read and interpret drawings, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and contractor submittals.
  • Experience supporting punch list generation, tracking, and closure in a…
