Job Description & How to Apply Below

Help students make sense of one of the most important, and sometimes most overwhelming, parts of their college experience.

Colorado State University Pueblo is seeking a Student Financial Services Counselor to help current and prospective students and their families navigate financial aid, understand their options, and make informed decisions about financing their education.

This is a highly student-facing role for someone who enjoys helping people, solving problems, explaining complex information in an approachable way, and working across multiple areas of a university. In addition to financial aid counseling and application processing, this position supervises student employees, participates in recruitment and outreach throughout southern Colorado, delivers presentations and financial literacy education, and helps ensure students have access to clear and accurate financial aid information.

You do not need to spend your entire career in financial aid to be successful in this position. If you have strong customer service skills, enjoy working with students and families, are comfortable learning detailed regulations and systems, and can communicate complicated information clearly, we encourage you to apply.

What You’ll Do Guide Students and Families Through Financial Aid

Serve as a resource for current and prospective students and their families throughout the financial aid process. You’ll help individuals understand eligibility requirements, application procedures, available aid programs, educational costs, loans, financing options, and financial management strategies.

You will review student information, troubleshoot conflicting or incomplete information, assist students with university systems and resources, and help identify solutions while ensuring compliance with federal student aid regulations and institutional requirements.

You’ll also process financial aid applications and corrections, review supporting documentation, determine financial need and aid eligibility, complete award adjustments, process loan changes, perform ISIR verification, and collaborate on Special Circumstance Appeals.

Supervise and Develop Student Employees

Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Student Financial Services work‑study employees who help support office operations and customer service.

You’ll provide training and ongoing guidance, encourage professional and skill development, monitor performance, and approve student employee time in accordance with payroll deadlines and applicable policies.

Represent CSU Pueblo in the Community

Help prospective students learn about CSU Pueblo by participating in recruitment activities throughout Colorado, with a particular focus on Pueblo and southeastern Colorado.

Activities may include high school visits, college fairs, presentations, and occasional evening or weekend events.

Build Financial Aid Knowledge and Financial Literacy

Help students better understand financial aid policies and processes, including the financial aid application process, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), enrollment requirements, and the ways academic decisions can affect financial aid eligibility.

You’ll also develop and deliver presentations and support campus initiatives designed to increase awareness of money management and financial literacy.

Keep Student Resources Current

Help maintain accurate and useful financial aid information on the CSU Pueblo website. You’ll review Financial Aid and scholarship webpages, update content and links, and coordinate with other campus departments when information needs to be corrected or refreshed.
