Description of Job

Provide professional psychologist services to inmate population in compliance with mental health guidelines, including:

  • Psychological assessment and evaluation of mental health needs
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Clinical and behavioral management of inmates with mental illness
  • Clinical consultation and guidance to inmates and staff
  • Processing documentation for comprehensive inmate mental health records
  • Crisis intervention

Communicate regularly and appropriately to inmates, clinical staff and administrative supervisors to ensure continuity within the work program. Ensure compliance with all applicable professional, departmental, organizational and unit standards. Positions may provide professional services to the Sex Offender Treatment and Monitoring Program (SOTMP).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Psychologist license issued by the State of Colorado, Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA)
  • One (1) year of experience as a licensed psychologist or permitted psychologist candidate (work experience less than full‑time will be prorated)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Problem‑solving and critical thinking to effectively resolve issues
  • Maintain required licensure/credentials
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across facility programs and disciplines
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain‑language guidelines with accessibility in mind
  • Self‑control, a strong sense of ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations
  • Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure and observant throughout the shift
  • Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience practicing as a psychologist in a correctional environment
Conditions of Employment
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Possess a valid driver’s license; maintain a safe driving record consistent with Colorado Division of Human Resources Universal Policy Driving Standards
  • Possess a high‑school diploma or GED
  • Have no felony convictions
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States (CDOC uses e‑Verify; does not sponsor non‑residents)
  • Successfully pass all modules of the six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, including English reading comprehension, competency assessments, and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics
  • Ability to complete the required Defensive Tactics and other physical requirements associated with the role
  • TB (tuberculosis) screening required upon hire
