POSITION SUMMARYThe Telecommunications Equipment Installer and Repairer provides advanced installation, maintenance, and optimization support for AF TENCAP’s communications, video teleconferencing (VTC), audiovisual (A/V), and hardware, operating systems, and peripherals (HOSP) infrastructure. This role manages the lifecycle of telecommunications hardware, cable infrastructure, and related systems across multiple classification levels, ensuring compliance with Air Force and DoD standards. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the specialist coordinates with internal teams, external agencies, and vendors to plan, execute, and document installation and repair activities.
A focus on quality workmanship, system reliability, HOSP lifecycle sustainment, and IT security vigilance is essential to supporting AF TENCAP’s mission‑critical communications infrastructure.
- Plan, coordinate, and perform installation, configuration, and maintenance of telecommunications, VTC, and A/V systems, including secure communications equipment and peripherals.
- Provide Level 2 HOSP maintenance, including diagnostics, component replacement, major system overhauls, and preventive maintenance to sustain mission‑ready equipment.
- Coordinate and perform hardware and operating system upgrades, ensuring compliance with lifecycle and accreditation requirements.
- Manage cable plant infrastructure, including design, installation, documentation, and maintenance in compliance with DoD and AF standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair complex telecommunications and HOSP system failures, coordinating with vendors and external agencies as required.
- Maintain system documentation, including installation records, wiring diagrams, configuration baselines, and HOSP maintenance logs.
- Coordinate warranty repair actions and vendor maintenance services, ensuring timely resolution and compliance with contractual terms.
- Support VTC scheduling, training of unit personnel on system setup, and user assistance for secure conferencing systems.
- Ensure all telecommunications and HOSP activities integrate IT security best practices and comply with AF cybersecurity policies.
- Collaborate with network and systems administration teams to ensure seamless integration of telecom and HOSP systems into AF TENCAP networks.
- Provide technical guidance to leadership on telecommunications and HOSP capabilities, upgrade planning, and emerging technologies.
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, adapting to evolving mission requirements while ensuring readiness of all telecommunications and HOSP systems.
- High School Diploma.
- Hold and maintain an 8570 IAT II compliant certification (Sec+).
- 3+ years of telecom equipment support experience.
- Experience supporting secure communications and A/V systems in a classified environment.
- Familiarity with cabling standards, telecom tools, and test equipment.
