Registered Nurse II – Full Time
Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP)

Position SummaryProvides nursing oversight and clinical supervision for a shift in a variety of security levels. Manages nursing staff, ensures compliance with regulations, and delivers therapeutic care to patients with psychiatric and medical complexities.
Responsibilities- Direct, supervise, and train all nursing staff on assigned shift
- Coordinate staffing schedules, evaluate acuity, and maintain appropriate licensed staffing levels
- Implement and communicate unit policies, procedures, and changes through meetings, email, and corner‑stone rosters
- Serve as charge nurse; report injuries, absences, and safety concerns to Lead Nurse
- Provide crisis intervention, respond to emergencies, and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment
- Facilitate planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of nursing care plans
- Ensure documentation for seclusion/ restraint, medication administration, labs, and respiratory services
- Participate in quality improvement, audit, and reporting of incidents, acuity, and QA/PI activities
- Lead orientation, training, and mentorship of new or existing staff
- Communicate with interdisciplinary teams and department leadership regarding nursing directives
- Represent the nursing department on hospital‑wide committees and work groups
- Assist in preparation for on‑site surveys and accreditation documentation
- Perform administrative oversight for nursing personnel during the shift
- Report and follow up on any safety or nursing concerns promptly
- Additional duties as assigned
- Valid RN license from the Colorado Board of Nursing or a state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
- Minimum of 2 years of professional RN experience
- Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, State Board of Nursing standards, and regulatory agencies
- Demonstrated ability to apply the nursing process to provide adequate patient care
- Experience in high‑acuity and security‑level settings
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and training skills
- Dependable, responsible, and adaptable with a strong work ethic
- Prior experience in Colorado or experience with the eNLC
- Strong observation skills – able to see and hear to address safety concerns
- Ability to work in assaultive or restraint situations
- Physical ability to lift up to 50+ pounds on occasion
- Full background check (CBI, FBI, Colorado Court Database, Medicare Fraud Database, TRAILS)
- CAPS check for vulnerable adults
- Work various shifts; must report immediately to provide essential services
- Pass all modules of CMHHIP New Employee Orientation and Defensive Tactics
- Must maintain physical fitness to perform defensive tactics, CPR, and emergency response
- TB screening, annual influenza vaccination, and required state vaccinations
