We tackle the most complex challenges to unlock new frontiers for human progress, fortify national security, and protect critical assets to lead in the race for technological and operational superiority from ground to space.

The Senior Receiving Technician is responsible for advanced incoming inspection, material verification, and acceptance/rejection disposition of raw materials, purchased components, sub-assemblies, hardware, chemicals, and energetic materials received into the facility.

The position reports to the Quality Manager and is part of the Quality Department based in Penrose, Colorado. This role is onsite at Penrose, Colorado.

In this role, the essential functions are:

Incoming Inspection & Material Acceptance

  • Perform dimensional, visual, and functional inspection of incoming materials, components, hardware, chemicals, and energetic materials using calibrated measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, surface plates, Visual Measuring Machines, and other precision instruments.
  • Review purchase orders, packing lists, Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), Material Test Reports (MTRs), and First Article documentation against received materials to verify identity, quantity, revision level, and configuration.
  • Inspect material against engineering drawings, assembly drawings, detail drawings, weld symbols, and applicable MIL-SPECs or industry standards; exercise independent professional judgment to interpret intent and establish acceptance thresholds where criteria are not fully defined, documenting the basis for all disposition decisions.
  • Apply working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 to evaluate dimensionally tolerance features and determine conformance when drawing callouts are ambiguous or incomplete.
  • Disposition received materials as Accept, Reject, or Hold/Use-As-Is/Repair with documented rationale; initiate Nonconforming Material (NCM) tags and support documentation for rejected or questionable material.
  • Segregate and clearly identify nonconforming material; coordinate with procurement or quality engineering to initiate Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) when appropriate.

Print & Specification Interpretation

  • Read, interpret, and apply complex engineering drawings including multi-view orthographic projections, section views, detail drawings, assembly drawings, and weld drawings.
  • Interpret and apply applicable military and industry specifications including MIL-DTL, MIL-STD, and ASTM standards; where requirements are not directly mapped to a receiving inspection criterion, identify the applicable requirement, determine a measurable acceptance method, and document the interpreted standard used for disposition.
  • Maintain working knowledge of material specifications for energetics related inputs including propellants, pyrotechnic compounds, oxidizers, fuels, metal parts used in energetic assemblies, and associated hardware.

Material Review & Disposition

  • Serve as the initiating inspector for Material Review Board (MRB) actions; prepare NCR packages with sufficient documentation (photographs, measurements, applicable drawing callouts, specification citations) to allow engineering disposition without redundant re-inspection.
  • Coordinate with engineering, quality, and procurement on Use-As-Is (UAI) or Repair dispositions; track open NCRs and MRB items to closure.
  • Maintain the quarantine area and nonconforming material log; ensure segregation is maintained throughout the disposition cycle.

Documentation & Record Keeping

  • Complete receiving inspection records accurately and completely for every lot inspected, including inspection results, measurement data, tool identification, and disposition basis.
  • Maintain calibration and traceability records for all inspection equipment; enter receiving data into the facility's ERP/MRP or quality management system accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and maintain statistical sampling records and incoming inspection data logs to support quality trend analysis and supplier performance monitoring.

Supplier & Internal Collaboration

  • Interface with purchasing and suppliers regarding discrepant material, RMA processing, return-to-vendor logistics, and SCAR responses.
  • Provide technical assistance and informal training to junior receiving inspection staff on print reading, measurement techniques, specification interpretation, and proper documentation practices.
  • Support internal and third-party quality audits (AS9100, ISO 9001, ATF, or customer source inspection) by presenting receiving inspection records and demonstrating process compliance.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Comply with all facility explosive safety rules, ATF regulatory requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing the receipt, handling, storage, and…
