Position Summary
The State of Colorado’s Division of Adult Parole is seeking Community Parole Officers to supervise, manage, and support inmates and parolees as part of community-based reentry efforts. The role involves field work, case planning, and enforcement responsibilities, with a focus on evidence‑based practices and public safety.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct field work such as pre‑release plan investigations, home visitation, job verification, and parole violation investigations, including after‑hours contact.
- Apply evidence‑based assessment, case planning, and supervision techniques under the guidance of a team leader or supervisor.
- Direct the assessment and supervision plan of community‑based parolees, updating the Colorado Transition Accountability Plan (CTAP) and parolee goals.
- Monitor parolee compliance and progress through employment, drug treatment, restitution payments, residential status, and specialized treatment programs.
- Interact with parolees using motivational interviewing, coaching, and other evidence‑based practices to promote pro‑social behavior and goal attainment.
- Provide crisis intervention and personal counseling to address interpersonal, familial, and financial problems.
- Investigate violations and impose sanctions consistent with the Colorado Violation Decision Making Process or community violation matrix.
- Present case information for adjudicatory hearings, including COPDs, parole revocation hearings, YOS revocation proceedings, and interstate compact probable‑cause hearings.
- Attend training to develop skills in evidence‑based supervision techniques.
- Maintain proficiency in firearms, arrest control techniques, CPR, and first aid.
- Operate on a 24/7 on‑call or callback schedule as required by the Division.
- Perform additional job‑related duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
- A combination of coursework and professional experience in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or counseling equivalent to four (4) years.
- Current and valid Colorado POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification or an equivalent law enforcement certification from another state with validity to obtain a Colorado POST through the provisional process.
- Or eligibility to obtain Colorado POST certification through the Federal Reciprocity program prior to hiring.
Special Requirements
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Valid and unrestricted driver’s license.
- No felony convictions or domestic violence history.
- Self‑control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations.
- Alertness, emotional stability, and mental resilience under pressure.
- Interpersonal and customer‑service skills focused on respectful interaction.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Decision‑making, critical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Time‑management, organization, and prioritization of tasks.
- Computer proficiency and adaptability to new technology.
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective relationships.
- Ability to work with a high‑risk, high‑need, diverse population.
- Proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing English.
- Prior State of Colorado experience.
- Experience as a parolee advocate or in community supervision.
- Knowledge of law enforcement, corrections, parole, or probation operations.
- Experience with case planning and goal setting.
- Knowledge of evidence‑based practices and interventions for parolee re‑entry.
- Experience with motivational interviewing (MI).
