Job Summary
The Clinical Security Officer I position provides specialized support that meets the safety, behavioral, health, and residential needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities, co‑occurring mental health diagnoses, and complex safety challenges who live in ICF‑IID group homes. The role includes safety and security duties, crisis intervention, behavior management, direct supervision, and the implementation of individualized plans.
Responsibilities- Ensure safety and security for ICF/IID facilities throughout the community.
- Complete daily documentation in databases such as Therap and email team members; notify staff of any observations that conflict with or compromise the Individual Program Plan.
- Drive to multiple sites, interface with staff and residents, and complete timely documentation of bed checks, programs, security, and key check‑outs.
- Direct milieu management and respond promptly to individuals in crisis, under the direction of professional staff.
- Assist in verbal de‑escalation, perform approved physical interventions using the least restrictive measures, track elopements, secure contraband, and coordinate with law enforcement or adult protective services as needed. Lead safety‑related situations such as room searches, personal searches, and environmental hazard removal.
- Implement behavioral, therapeutic, vocational, and recreation objectives from the Individual Program Plan in a manner that promotes maximum independence.
- Provide supervision and support for all activities of daily living (ADL), including safety, coping skills, meal preparation, money management, hygiene, social skills, recreation, domestic skills, and transportation.
- Transport residents to day programs, medical appointments, court hearings, and community activities while maintaining supervision and safety.
- Document the results of all plan elements in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform additional business‑related duties, including medication administration, as required.
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- State Board of Nursing (SBON) Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) and Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP), or equivalent, with a valid, current, and unrestricted license/certification. If not currently licensed, the candidate must complete a QMAP class within 2 months of hire.
- College education in behavioral health, psychology, or criminal justice.
- Experience working with adjudicated and/or detained adults in secure residential or behavioral health settings.
- Experience working with adults who have developmental or intellectual disabilities.
- Experience working with adults with mental illness and facilitating psycho‑educational groups.
- Experience with trauma‑informed care and mentoring or coaching roles.
- Experience using verbal de‑escalation and motivational techniques.
- Relevant years of state service experience.
- Conflict management skills.
- Strong work ethic, integrity, and dependability.
- Sound judgment and decision‑making skills.
- Self‑control, composure, and ability to manage stressful situations.
- Clear verbal communication and respectful demeanor.
- Ability to recognize hazards or potential security breaches and communicate pertinent information.
- Ability to document events accurately and concisely.
- State resident at the time of application and throughout employment.
- Must travel to remote sites and use a state vehicle; if unavailable, a personal vehicle may be used with mileage reimbursement and the position may require using a state vehicle to transport residents.
- Must possess a valid, non‑restricted Colorado Driver’s License (or U.S. license within 30 miles of the Colorado border). Out‑of‑state license holders must obtain a Colorado license within 30 days of hire.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must demonstrate the ability to lift 50 lbs, bend, squat, and perform physical interventions; this competency is required both at pre‑employment and throughout employment.
