OverviewThe mission of the Division of Youth Services (DYS) is to protect, restore and improve public safety utilizing a continuum of care that provides effective supervision, promotes accountability to victims and communities, and helps youth lead constructive lives through positive youth development. DYS operates 15 secure facilities that serve youth aged 10 to 21, providing residential programming and juvenile parole services throughout Colorado.

- Safety/Security: Provide direct care, safety, security, and supervision of adjudicated and pre‑adjudicated youth in a secure setting; enforce behavioral management plans; conduct daily activities, crisis intervention, restraint, debriefing, and searches; supervise shifts; train and mentor staff.
- Youth Center Programming: Implement and follow the Youth Center’s behavioral management program; teach, coach, and redirect youth; facilitate milieu and skill groups.
- Documentation: Record observations, unit activities, and required information in logs and database systems.
- Organizational Accountability: Demonstrate and promote a positive, respectful culture; adhere to CDHS Code of Conduct and DYS policies.
- Training: Complete DYS pre‑service training academy, Youth Center training, orientation, and ongoing online training; support behavioral management strategies.
- Other Duties: Perform additional assigned responsibilities as needed.
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of professional experience in a related occupational field.
- Substitutions:
- Additional education may substitute for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Corrections‑related experience such as custody or control of a detained or adjudicated population, POST Certified Officer, or Military Law Enforcement qualifies under experience.
- College coursework in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, human services, or related field may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Experience with adjudicated and/or detained youth in a secure facility.
- Self‑motivated, positive role model, detail‑oriented.
- Problem solving, teamwork, effective communication, adaptability.
- Trainer certification in staff development.
- Supervisory or leadership experience.
- Critical thinking and decision‑making skills.
- Proficiency in Google Suite.
- College degree in related field.
- Relevant years of state service experience.
- Full background check including name, fingerprint, court, Medicare fraud, and reference checks.
- Minimum 21 years of age with no felony convictions or domestic violence history.
- State of Colorado residency required at application and during employment.
- Valid, non‑restricted Colorado driver’s license required.
- Shift work with potential travel for training or alternate work sites.
- Completion of mandatory training and annual subject area renewals required for continued employment.
