Job SummaryDrivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments dependent on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pick‑up service of containers filled with waste or recyclable material, sometimes maneuvering wheeled containers weighing over 1,000 pounds to a pick‑up stage area.
They navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots; highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential. Residential Drivers collect household waste or recyclable material and must safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, lots, and high‑traffic roadways, sometimes operating in tight overhead environments on industrial routes.
High‑skill backing maneuvers are essential to succeed in this role.
- Operate the vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act), DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements, and all local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of the assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify the Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by the Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Required Qualifications
- 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
- Can read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air‑brake endorsement upon hire, or
- Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air‑brake endorsement upon hire.

Pay:
The expected base pay range for this on‑site position is $25/hr this range represents a good‑faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
