The Activity Small Vehicle Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from athletic events, extracurricular activities, field trips, and other school-related functions using a district-approved small vehicle (such as a SUV or Minibus). This position ensures the safety and well-being of all passengers by following established transportation policies, traffic laws, and safety procedures.

The driver maintains accurate trip records, performs basic pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, and communicates promptly with school staff regarding schedules, delays, or concerns. This role requires a strong commitment to student safety, professionalism, and representing the district positively during all trips.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Pass a criminal background check for before hire
  • Possess current CPR and First aid certifications or be in training.
  • Pass annual written and driving performance test
  • Submit to a Motor Vehicle Records check annually.
  • Meet insurability requirements of the Colorado School District Self Insurance Pool
REPORTS TO:
  • Director of Maintenance, Operations & Transportation
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Transporting of passengers in a safe and timely manner in all weather conditions.
  • Observe safe driving practices.
  • Educate passengers on rules. Establish and maintain positive student relations.
  • Assists students, as needed, in loading and unloading the bus.
  • Maintain and enforce district regulations regarding student discipline. Controls noise level and settles student disputes. Monitors student riders for any medical problems. Communicates with the Transportation Director regarding student behavior that requires redirection. Student discipline referrals will be given to the Transportation Director, who will communicate with the appropriate Principal.
  • Possess full knowledge of state laws regarding school activity trip operations, complies with all provisions of the Colorado Department of Transportation and all rules set forth by the Colorado Department of Education and Hayden Board of Education for the operation of school vehicles.
  • Performs daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles in accordance with Colorado Department of Transportation and District guidelines. IE:
    Checking for passengers, windows and doors are secured, defects or vandalism after each route or activity.
  • Complete and submit requests for items needing repair on designated form to the transportation director. Prepares and submits necessary reports and forms promptly, neatly and accurately.
  • Clean vehicle (sweep, empty trash, and wash, if necessary) upon return of trip if before 10:00 p.m., returning after 10:00 p.m. is optional to be performed the next day.
  • Reports all unsafe route conditions or hazards to the scheduler/dispatcher and /or Transportation Director.
  • Verifies leave/departure times at beginning and throughout the year. Provides detailed information to the scheduler/dispatcher for upcoming trips and route taking.
  • Completes annual paperwork required by the state and the district.

  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent Policies and building/department procedures.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the Transportation Director and/or dispatcher.
