Teacher of Gifted Education - 120 Day Contract
Job SummaryPurpose:
The job of Teacher of Gifted Education was established to ensure identification and individualized education for gifted students; to assist the principal in the planning and conducting of staff development activities related to intervention and differentiated instruction of high academic and gifted students based upon assessed student need. This job will assist the principal in providing effective modeling/coaching and demonstration lessons to support Direct Instruction and other district adopted strategies as assigned.
This job reports to the School Site Principal and Director of Special Education.
- Assist school site principal, in conjunction with the building Intervention Team, in identification of gifted students.
- Conduct a screening of all students following the TN State Guidelines for gifted identification.
- Is knowledgeable of and utilizes the State and District forms necessary for identifying students and creating and following gifted students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Meet all state and Federal IEP timelines in accordance with the law.
- Provide quarterly progress reports for all students on IEP caseload.
- Administer and score creativity and academic assessments as part of the process of identifying gifted students.
- Maintain an IEP file for each identified gifted student in the required format of the School District and TN State Department following all guidelines for confidentiality.
- Utilize district logs for service of identified gifted students, tracking students, and Intervention Team meetings.
- Have knowledge and understanding of the cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics, needs, and problems found in gifted students because of their atypical mental development.
- Develop and implement an individualized curriculum appropriate to meet the individual gifted student’s needs based on relevant educational data.
- Serve as a member of the school team communicating frequently and regularly with parents of the gifted students, including preparation and distribution of quarterly progress reports.
- Serve as a resource person for the general education teachers, providing materials, methods, and ideas to ensure appropriate educational experiences for the gifted students and other high performing students in the regular classroom.
- Assist principal in analyzing data as the basis of prescriptive interventions and the application of differentiated and instructional strategies.
This job is performed in a standard office environment and in a generally clean and healthy environment. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing.
Physical Requirements:
occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Travel will be required between school locations.
Experience:
Job related experience is required.
Clearances:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance required.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
Certificates and Licenses:
Teacher Certification and/or License.
Continuing Education/Training:
Maintain Licensure Renew or Advance.
Part-Time
Job Requirements- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
