Educational Assistant
Purpose: Provide support to the instructional program within assigned educational settings by working with individual and/or small groups of students, and offering clerical assistance to teachers and staff. This position reports directly to the School Principal.
Essential Functions- Adapt classroom activities, assignments and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
- Assist students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments—reading stories, listening to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing English lessons, spelling practice, computer learning programs, etc.—to practice and reinforce learning concepts and help students reach academic goals and grade‑level standards.
- Assist teachers with classroom assignments, tests, homework, make‑up work, and related tasks to support the instructional process.
- Attend meetings and professional development opportunities to acquire and/or convey information relevant to the job functions.
- Communicate with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents to evaluate progress and implement academic objectives.
- Maintain instructional materials and electronic files/records—lessons, pencils, paper, teaching supplies—to ensure availability of items and meet mandated requirements.
- Monitor individual and/or groups of students in classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc., to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Perform general clerical tasks (laminating, making posters, copies, bulletin boards, filing, newsletters) to assist teachers with instructional materials.
- Report observations and incidents related to specific students—accidents, fights, appropriate/inappropriate social behavior, rule violations, safety conditions—to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
- Support classroom teachers and other school personnel (e.g., open bookstore, perform hearing/visual screening, oral/written testing, type newsletters) to assist in curriculum implementation and teaching methodologies.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
ResponsibilitiesWork under direct supervision using standardized procedures; provide information and/or advise others; continually affect the organization’s services.
Working EnvironmentThe position requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. General duties include 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The environment is generally hazard‑free.
ExperienceJob‑related experience is required.
ClearancesCriminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
EducationHigh School diploma or equivalent.
Required TestingPre‑employment Proficiency Test.

Job RequirementsSkills: Perform multiple tasks with potential skill upgrades; operate standard office equipment, use software applications, and prepare/maintain accurate records.
Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios), reading diverse manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, presenting information, understanding multi‑step instructions; knowledge of grammar, punctuation, child development stages, learning styles, age‑appropriate activities.
Abilities: Schedule activities, collate data, use job‑related equipment, work with diverse individuals, interpret data, solve problems, set priorities, work as part of a team amid interruptions; maintain confidentiality.
