Job Description

The Director of Wellness and Prevention oversees wellness and health promotion practices as part of a transformative student experience. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Student Engagement, the Director is primarily responsible for planning and implementing campus-wide interpersonal outreach initiatives to create an environment that promotes physical and mental health. The position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating substance misuse prevention programs/initiatives and recovery programs for students in all phases of recovery from addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs.

The role also grows existing substance misuse prevention offerings, improves assessment of their impact, and assists with campus reports related to alcohol and drug use.

Responsibilities

Campus Outreach: Develop, plan, coordinate, and implement a variety of wellness preventative and educational programs for the campus community based on sound theory and evidence-informed practices of college health promotion; use both individual and environmental prevention strategies; advance the wellness of students and contribute to the creation of an institutional and community climate of wellness; consider developmental and demographic profiles of the student population in program development;

use multiple formats, strategies, and contexts to provide universal access to programs; train interpersonal wellness health educators to enhance, promote, and expand interpersonal wellness.

Campus/External Relations: Engage students, faculty/staff, and community constituents to promote student wellness and to create campus and community environments that support student wellness; develop, maintain, and promote effective and productive relations with those that have a significant interest in or potential effect on the students served by the programs; garner support and resources for programs; collaborate in offering or improving programs to meet the needs of students and to achieve program and student outcomes;

disseminate information about the programs; develop and coordinate campaigns for engaging and encouraging the campus community in these outcomes; manage and support work with outside groups, programs, and entities including but not limited to the system, community, and partners associated with work in the wellness and recovery space.

Recovery

Activities:

Develop, implement, and evaluate educational, social, and service programs for a Collegiate Recovery Program, as well as oversee all aspects of the program, including promotion, recruitment, membership engagement, and recovery support; develop and assess programs, trainings, and initiatives that educate the campus on substance use/misuse, harm reduction, recovery, medical amnesty, and bystander intervention; identify short and long term goals measuring achievement in substance misuse prevention and recovery services;

represent UT Southern’s Collegiate Recovery Program across the UT System, Tennessee, and region.

Program Assessment And Evaluation: Develop an ongoing cycle of assessment plans, processes, and activities; identify programmatic goals and intended program outcomes as well as outcomes for student learning and development; interpret and use assessment results to demonstrate accountability and inform planning and decision-making; assess effectiveness of implemented changes; provide evidence of program improvement.

Administrative Services: Serve as member of CARE Team; assist with required federal, state, system and institutional data collection; compile and maintain a directory of referral sources for a variety of student needs (psychiatry, counseling, social services, etc.); other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
