How you'll contribute:
A Nurse Extern who excels in this role:
- Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary patient care team to support safe, high-quality patient care.
- Provides direct patient care under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient conditions and observations to the supervising RN.
- Documents patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, nutrition, elimination, and ambulation.
- Assists with patient transfers, admissions, discharges, and other patient care activities as appropriate.
- Provides patient and family education based on age, culture, developmental level, and identified learning needs.
- Advocates for the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being of patients.
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and critical thinking while functioning within the Nurse Extern scope of practice.
- Participates in departmental performance improvement, safety, and quality initiatives.
- Assists with orientation and training activities as assigned.
- Participates in required meetings, educational programs, and competency validations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for:
Applicants should be a third-year nursing student or higher and be enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing. Additional requirements include:
- Certifications:
AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire. - Required Skills:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work independently with appropriate supervision. Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress clinical environment. - Experience:
One-year previous experience preferred. - Licenses:
Must have a current Tennessee or compact state RN license. - Education:
Associate's degree required. BSN preferred.
