New River Community College is a two‑year public institution located in Dublin, Virginia, with an instructional site in Christiansburg. The college provides modern facilities for career technical education and transfer programs, serving approximately 4,000 students. The college’s mission is to support inclusive education and workforce development.
Responsibilities- Work closely with the NRCC Educational Foundation Office and high‑school career coaches to manage the Foundation and ACCE (Access to Community College Education) program.
- Verify FAFSA completion using the Federal Student Aid Partner Portal, maintain application spreadsheets, and provide outreach regarding missing items.
- Add ACCE and Foundation Scholarship awards to the system, adjust counts as needed, and manage private scholarship records, disbursed amounts, and returns to providers.
- Assist students in completing the FAFSA and addressing financial‑aid related questions; conduct financial‑aid workshops for high‑school students; coordinate outreach for student groups.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including occasional evening and weekend hours and emergency assistance when directed by state officials.
May be required to perform additional duties, including emergency assistance during a Governor‑declared emergency.
Qualifications- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with a student‑focused approach.
- Professional, confidential, and courteous interaction with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Proficient understanding of college, state and federal financial aid programs.
- Education and work experience in accounting (preferred).
- Experience with People Soft Student Information System (SIS) or comparable systems (preferred).
- Understanding of college student demographics and financial pressures faced by students.
Additional factors may be considered including accounting experience, People Soft experience, and strong understanding of student demographics.
