Career Investigations Teacher

Pulaski County Public Schools is seeking an innovative and student-centered educator to serve as a Career Investigations Teacher at Pulaski County Middle School. The successful candidate will lead career awareness, career exploration, and career pathway instruction for middle school students, helping them connect their interests, strengths, and academic experiences to future educational and career opportunities. The Career Investigations Teacher will work collaboratively with school counselors, administrators, Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff, business partners, and community stakeholders to support career development and workforce readiness initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach Career Awareness, Career Investigations, and Career Pathways courses for middle school students.
  • Facilitate career exploration activities, career assessments, and workplace readiness instruction.
  • Support students in identifying interests, strengths, and future career goals.
  • Collaborate with school counselors to support Academic and Career Planning (ACP) activities.
  • Develop and implement engaging, hands-on lessons aligned with Virginia Career Investigations standards.
  • Coordinate guest speakers, career fairs, industry presentations, and career-connected learning experiences.
  • Promote awareness of Pulaski County High School Career and Technical Education pathways.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and program participation.
  • Build partnerships with local businesses, industry representatives, community organizations, and postsecondary institutions.
  • Foster a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages career exploration and future planning.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement that qualifies them to teach Career Investigations. Preferred Endorsement:
    Family and Consumer Sciences. Family and Consumer Sciences candidates are strongly preferred due to the alignment with career development, workplace readiness, life skills education, health sciences exploration, and middle school exploratory programming.
  • Other Eligible Endorsements:
    Applicants holding one or more of the following Virginia endorsements are encouraged to apply:
    Business and Information Technology Technology Education Engineering Computer Science Computer Science Specialist Mathematics Electronics Technology. Additional endorsements approved by the Virginia Department of Education for Career Investigations assignments may also be considered.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
    • Holds or eligible for a Virginia teaching license in middle school with an endorsement in appropriate subject area
    • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching
    • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
    • Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
    • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills
    • Experience working with middle school students
    • Knowledge of Virginia Academic and Career Planning (ACP) requirements
    • Experience in Career and Technical Education (CTE), career development, workforce readiness, or exploratory education
    • Ability to create engaging, project-based learning experiences
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills
    • Experience developing partnerships with business, industry, and community organizations
