Job Description
- New River Community College (NRCC) is a comprehensive community college located in the New River Valley of Virginia. At NRCC you can prepare for the future with any of our various occupational programs or college transfer courses. NRCC faculty members are well known not just for their academic background, but also for their capacity to work closely and effectively with students.

The English Language Learner (ELL) Instructor is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering instructional lessons that support English language acquisition.

Major duties, responsibilities, and qualifications (may include, but will not be limited to, the following):

  • Evaluates student progress based on achievement of performance objectives and competencies, utilizing CASAS assessment results and other appropriate measures.
  • Employs a variety of instructional strategies, techniques, and materials appropriate for adult English language learners.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of student attendance, progress, and performance.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum and instruction.
  • Maintains current knowledge in the subject area and enhances instructional effectiveness through ongoing professional development.
  • Participates in program and district meetings, including regular collaboration with the Regional Specialist and Adult Learning Specialist to address attendance, student assessment, placement, progress monitoring, and regional program goals.
  • Promotes awareness of NRCC Adult Learning Center services and educational opportunities within the community.

Special Assignments
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Candidates must possess strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and members of the public in a professional, inclusive, and student-focused environment.

Additional Considerations - A Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution Experience with teaching English, especially to non-native speakers.
