Program Assistant | University Writing (Pullman, WA)

Overview

Washington State University's Office of the Provost and Department of Academic Engagement & Student Engagement (DAESA) is seeking a Writing Program Assistant. The role serves as the primary operational and administrative contact for the Writing Program Director and manages the administrative aspects of the University Writing Portfolio and Placement Assessments.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as primary operational and administrative contact for the Writing Program Director.
  • Manage administrative aspects of the University Writing Portfolio and Placement Assessments.
  • Handle unit course scheduling for Writing classes and English 102.
  • Provide administrative support to the Writing Program and Director.
  • Maintain a calendar of workflow for the University Writing Portfolio and Writing Placement.
  • Manage office space.
  • Develop and maintain assessment databases.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Fiscal Specialist on various projects.
  • Allocate responsibilities according to the following breakdown: 45% Program Support, 30% Student Services/Communication/Outreach, 10% Assessment Support, 10% Records and Reporting, 5% Other duties.
Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two (2) years of full‑time clerical experience OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience providing administrative support in an office or program setting.
  • Experience communicating effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database software.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education or a university setting.
  • Experience coordinating academic assessment, testing, or placement activities.
  • Experience supporting fiscal processes including billing, purchasing, contracts, or budget tracking.
  • Experience providing customer service to diverse student and stakeholder populations.
  • Experience with MyWSU and Slate.

Salary and Employment

Full‑time (100% FTE), permanent position; overtime eligible. Monthly salary range: $3,565 to $4,476. Benefits available to classified staff.
