Clinical Assistant Professor

College of Nursing | WSU Spokane

Position Summary

Washington State University and the College of Nursing invite applications for a full‑time, clinical track clinician‑scholar‑educator who holds current certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). In this role, the Faculty Member will serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing, with a primary work location on the WSU Spokane campus.

The position is designated as hybrid; the faculty member is expected to be on campus as needed to support teaching, clinical activities, meetings, and other core responsibilities. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching doctoral, masters, and/or undergraduate students.
  • Advising undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Serving as a clinical faculty evaluator with FNP students in their clinical settings.
  • Maintaining an ongoing program of clinical scholarship.
  • Disseminating scholarly findings.
  • Serving on graduate student committees.
  • Providing service to the department, College of Nursing, and university communities as well as the nursing profession.
  • Engaging with healthcare agencies to develop partnerships for FNP clinical placement opportunities.

A portion of the faculty workload may include providing clinical practice in a collaborating community clinic, supporting academic‑practice partnerships and expanding access to high‑quality care. Specific clinical opportunities will be aligned with the faculty member’s area of expertise and finalized in coordination with the community partner and the College of Nursing.

Required Qualifications
  • A DNP or PhD by date of hire.
  • National certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and at least two years of full‑time clinical practice as a family nurse practitioner.
  • Eligibility for RN licensure and ARNP licensure with prescriptive authority in Washington State and Oregon, if not already licensed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching didactic and clinical courses and advising graduate and/or undergraduate nursing students.
  • Experience with technology assisted education modalities.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize practice‑based research studies to address salient nursing and health care issues.
  • Interdisciplinary/interprofessional collaboration in practice and/or education.
  • Current in clinical practice.
  • Experience as a preceptor for FNP students.
Employment Details

Full‑time (100% FTE), fixed‑term, career‑track faculty position. Overtime exempt. Position term: 9 months.

Annual 9‑month academic salary: $92,063.31. Individual placement within the salary range is based on the candidate’s experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Benefit package includes paid sick and vacation leave; paid holidays; medical, dental, life and disability insurance for employees and dependents; retirement; deferred compensation and optional supplemental retirement accounts.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid work arrangement combining on‑campus and off‑campus work, subject to university approval, and may be adjusted or discontinued based on operational needs.
