Job DescriptionDEFINITION OF POSITION
:
The Elementary Specialist will prepare lessons and instruct students in Art, STEM, Music and/or PE enrichment activities.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR
:
Building Principal
- Possess or be eligible for a Washington State Teaching certificate with an endorsement in elementary education
- Experience and/or training using technology to enhance curriculum, instruction and assessment
- Successful experience working with the elementary‑age child
- Knowledgeable of contemporary pedagogical practices such as developmentally appropriate practices, cooperative learning, learning styles, contextual teaching, integrated curriculum, inclusion practices, enrichment opportunities, classroom assessment, alternative assessment, individualized programs, differentiation of instruction, global/ multi‑cultural education, etc.
- Endorsement in health/fitness, physical education, music, math, science and/or visual arts
- Experience teaching at the elementary level (grades K‑5)
- Experience with classroom assessments and alternative classroom assessments
- Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
- Experience and/or training in ESL/ELL (English as a Second Language)
- Fulfill all teaching assignments effectively
- Identify the learning needs of individual students
- Establish learning objectives consistent with the learning needs of students as well as with the district’s learning objectives and goals
- Plan and develop a variety of instructional experiences appropriate to the specified learning objectives and outcomes
- Conduct an effective instructional plan for a classroom and assess student achievement
- Integrate technology into the curriculum
- Organize the physical setting and climate to optimize a productive learning environment
- Organize individual and group learning experiences appropriate to the students, subject matter and outcomes desired
- Select and/or create appropriate instructional materials and maintain materials in an organized manner
- Develop and maintain clear standards and engagement strategies for student conduct with appropriate disciplinary action as needed
- Work cooperatively, maintain effective communication and act professionally with staff, families and community members
- Assist with organizing art shows, music performances, and other school activities as directed
- Work positively with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization
- Work with colleagues in a collaborative manner and be a positive team builder
- Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
- Maintain confidentiality
- Deal with the public, other agencies and district employees in a positive and productive manner
- Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
- Work with minimal supervision and be flexible
- Salary: $29,229 - $55,092 per year, placement based on experience and level of education

.5 FTE, 180 days plus professional development days - Leaves/Benefits:
Medical, dental, vision, life and long‑term disability coverage is provided through SEBB for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Education Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District.
