Position Details

The Opportunity:

As part of a collaborative advising team within the Carson Center for Student Success in the Carson College of Business (CCB), the Academic & Student Success Advisor provides holistic, student-centered advising to undergraduate business students. As an advisor, you will support students’ academic, personal, and professional development through proactive engagement, individualized academic planning, and goal setting. Guiding students in making informed decisions about their education, academic and career aspirations.

Advisors support CCB’s commitment to student success, experiential learning, and career readiness. Advisors contribute to student retention, progression, degree completion by maintaining regular contact with advisees, monitoring academic progress, and identifying and addressing potential barriers to success through timely interventions and referrals. They assist students in understanding degree requirements, University and College policies and academic processes, while coaching students to effectively navigate their degree path and utilize intuitional tools and resources.

In addition to direct advising, the advisor integrates academic planning with career exploration and preparation by supporting students in identifying and engaging in high-impact learning experiences such as internships, study abroad, research, and student leadership opportunities. The advisor also supports the administrative functions of holistic advising, including maintaining accurate academic records, supporting orientation and transition programs, and graduation clearance. The advisor collaborates closely with faculty, department chairs, career services and other student support offices to ensure a coordinated and seamless student experience.

Information

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible. Monthly Salary: $4,100 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience.
  • A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.
  • Experience with academic/career advising, and experience applying academic rules and regulations.
  • Work experience using student records systems (i.e. People Soft, Banner).
  • Work experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Zoom.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain professional, courteous, and interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work weekends and after regular business hours.
