QualificationsMinimum of 20 years of experience in farming, agriculture, or plant associated field work, or an AA degree in Biology or an associated degree.
- Pesticide applicator license.
- Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel.
Enrollee will train the new Farm Manager in support of the mission of the USDA Western Regional Plant Introduction Station (WRPIS), Pullman Farm, using advanced skills and knowledge in the care and maintenance of the crops grown there for research and the regeneration of crucial plant genetic resources in the WRPIS collections.
- Mentor the new Farm Manager in the specific duties of the farm. 50%
- Impart the information and skills needed to safely navigate the hardware, chemicals, and weather‑related dangers associated with farming. 30%
- Repair or recommend repair of equipment and tools. 20%
- Pesticide safety training to maintain an active applicator license.
- Travel Requirements:
Enrollee may be required to travel up to 90 miles from duty station (Central Ferry Farm). Travel costs permitted. - Health and Safety Considerations:
Successfully obtaining a Pesticide Applicator License includes all needed training to safely handle and dispose of pesticide chemicals. - Physical requirements:

The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies.
The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees.
