Employment Type: Full time, Classified, Permanent
Benefits: Comprehensive package including paid leave, medical, dental, life insurance, retirement, deferred compensation, supplemental retirement accounts, training, and tuition waiver.
Monthly salary: $4,746 to $5,506 (Range 45G, Steps G-M). Salary increments are scheduled in accordance with WAC 357-28.
Responsibilities- Operate heavy equipment for material moving, snow removal, street repair, utility excavations, and other maintenance or construction activities.
- Follow operating manuals, safety manuals, construction plans, and grade stakes.
- Work varying shifts and perform hands‑on skills tests for excavation of buried utilities.
- Three (3) years of experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment such as bulldozers, graders, excavators, cranes, or similar.
- Full journey status as a Heavy Equipment Operator through work experience, apprenticeship, or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license meeting SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
- Valid Class A CDL (or ability to obtain by hire).
- Ability to work varying shifts.
- Hands‑on skills test pass for the excavation of buried utilities.
- Journey level skills on multiple equipment types: backhoes, excavators, motor graders, small cranes, boom trucks, sweepers, front end loaders, telescopic boom forklifts, sewer vacuum/jetting machines, and various truck configurations.
- Four (4) years of full‑time journey level heavy equipment operator experience (backhoes, excavators, graders, loaders).
- Experience in utility/maintenance, street and road construction, maintenance, and repair.
- Snow plowing/removal experience.
- Underground utility installation and maintenance experience.
- Street and road construction/maintenance experience.
This position requires a background check due to duties involving children or vulnerable adults and access to university facilities. Background checks are performed after initial qualification.
