Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you someone who enjoys a role that blends customer service, organization, and hands‑on work? In this position, you’ll support daily operations at the County’s solid waste landfill by processing vehicles as they enter and exit the facility, collecting fees, maintaining accurate records, and helping ensure safe and compliant waste disposal.

You’ll be the first point of contact for customers—inspecting loads to identify prohibited or hazardous materials, directing drivers to the correct disposal areas, and providing guidance on alternative disposal options when needed. You’ll also coordinate the proper handling of special wastes by managing documentation such as manifests, tickets, and reports to ensure regulatory compliance.

Your responsibilities include operating the landfill scale, computer systems, and cash register, accurately collecting and reconciling cash, checks, and credit card payments, and preparing daily deposits and reports. You’ll answer questions about solid waste policies, rates, and charge accounts while delivering clear, courteous customer service.

In addition to administrative duties, you’ll help maintain the scale house, grounds, and convenience drop‑off areas, supporting a clean and safe environment. If you enjoy working with the public, handling details with care, and contributing to essential community services, this role offers a dependable and meaningful opportunity to make a difference every day.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in cashiering and customer service.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Within six (6) months of position assignment:
    • Possession of First Aid, CPR, AED certification.
What You Bring:

You have a working knowledge of departmental policies, modern office practices, and common computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You’re comfortable using standard office equipment and software, including computers, calculators, and multi‑line phone systems, and you understand basic workplace safety practices and precautions.

You bring strong organizational and communication skills, allowing you to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and clearly share information both verbally and in writing. You use sound judgment in recognizing and reporting unusual conditions and can apply department rules, policies, and procedures with discretion and professionalism.

You’re able to work independently on routine tasks, maintain accurate records and reports, and follow written and verbal instructions in English. You’re also flexible and dependable—able to operate a motor vehicle and work nights, weekends, holidays, or emergency shifts when required.

Above all, you value teamwork and service. You provide courteous guidance and customer assistance through all communication channels and build positive working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, service providers, and the public.
