The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed. They are not exhaustive.
SummaryUnder the direction and guidance of the Terminal Manager and/or Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for cleanliness of Terminal Building and other Airport Facilities as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities- Handles cleaning chemicals safely during performance of all duties; uses personal protective equipment to include gloves, masks, and/or safety glasses if needed.
- Cleans, sweeps, vacuums, mops building floors in accordance with specific cleaning protocols.
- Ensures all custodial storage areas are well stocked with paper and cleaning supplies.
- Operates several types of floor cleaning equipment, polishers, and vacuum cleaners.
- Services, cleans, and replenishes supplies in restrooms.
- Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
- Dusts furniture and equipment with a duster; dusts fan blades with long handled duster.
- Cleans glass and mirrors with a squeegee.
- Removes the trash from each area and disposes of it properly; cleans the trash cans.
- Collects and organizes recyclable items.
- Responds to calls for emergency cleaning and practices safe measures for cleaning and disposal of bio‑hazardous materials.
- Notifies Terminal Manager and/or Supervisor concerning the need for supplies or repairs needed.
- Maintains awareness of airport security issues and responds as required.
- Works around the general public and assists passengers by answering questions or providing information.
- Responds to routine cleaning requests from other departments and stakeholders.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of cleaning/janitorial experience preferred.
- Valid Florida Driver's License.
- Able to follow detailed instructions.
- Able to complete work in a timely manner.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Able to problem solve independently or seek assistance.
- Knowledge of general cleaning and disinfecting procedures, preferably in a commercial or institutional setting.
- Able to learn, understand and implement all knowledge of SDS sheets on proper usage, emergency protocol, and disposal of all approved chemicals.
- Able to learn how to use all equipment as well as clean/maintain equipment after each use.
- Able to lift 50 pounds, push, pull, climb, and walk for most of the day.
