Utilities Service Technician – Construction
This role focuses on installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining water systems that keep Charlotte County running. Your hands‑on work will directly affect community infrastructure and daily operations.
ResponsibilitiesA typical day involves fieldwork, system monitoring, and customer support to guarantee that water and wastewater systems operate safely and efficiently. You will gather tools and review work orders before heading out to install, inspect, maintain, or repair lines and related components. Throughout the day you may respond to service calls, emergencies, and customer concerns, restore impacted areas, maintain equipment, and assist coworkers as needed.
Education& Credentials
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Within three (3) months of assignment:
- Valid Commercial class A Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
- Within six (6) months of assignment:
- CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Must pass and maintain respirator fit test and Pulmonary Function test for respiratory protection.
- Within two (2) years of assignment:
- Depending on the area of assignment, may be required to maintain one or more of the following certifications or licensures: FWPCOA Wastewater Collection C and Water Distribution System Operation Level 3.
- Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, grasping, hearing, seeing, kneeling, reaching, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions.
- Frequent lifting of 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent exposure to raw wastewater and treated effluent.
- Outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, odors, heights, and dust.
- Interaction with irate customers.
- Moderate exposure or risk related to physical and/or mental health and safety, including hazardous materials, heavy equipment, assault and battery, and communicable disease.
All County employees may be required to work before, during, or after an emergency to meet the needs of County residents. Duties may be temporarily outside the normal scope of the position.
