An entry level laborer position responsible for the maintenance and repair or replacement of seawalls and related structures within the P.G.I. and B.S.I. canal maintenance districts.
Essential FUNCTIONS AND DUTIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity.
- Fill sinkholes, landward side of seawall.
- Patch seawalls, water ward side of seawall.
- Repair seawall caps.
- Assist in replacement projects involving seawalls, seawall caps and tie backs.
- Clean and maintain canal maintenance division trucks, equipment and shop and yard area.
- Assist public with questions while working in the field.
- Cutting grass, weed eating, painting, general repairs at boat lock.
- Place rip-rap at the base of seawalls.
- Cut and tie steel rebar, set forms, pour and finish concrete for seawall sheet piles.
- Maintain channel markers and aids to navigation.
- Clean/maintain catch basins in BSI – per state permit

- Knowledge of proper safety procedures, including signage and traffic management techniques and appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Knowledge of concrete forming and construction methods.
- Knowledge of the equipment and materials used to manufacture seawall panels and properly install them.
- Knowledge of the use of yard maintenance equipment.
- Skill in the use of landscaping and lawn care equipment.
- Skill in doing simple mechanical and painting repair.
Able to do primarily outside laboring work. - Able to operate equipment that is potentially hazardous.
- Able to communicate effectively with members of the public.
- Able to operate light vehicles and equipment.
- Able to swim
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate highly desirable, but not required.
- Valid Florida driver’s license required.
