Charlotte Harbor Water Association (CHWA) is seeking a dependable and motivated Distribution Field Technician to join our Operations team. This position is responsible for maintaining water distribution systems, utility equipment, and facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service to our customers. Duties include the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of water mains, service lines, meters, valves, hydrants, pumps, and related infrastructure.
This is a hands-on position that requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions, operating specialized equipment and tools, and responding to service and emergency needs. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining water quality, system reliability, and customer service standards throughout the CHWA service area.

- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair water distribution systems and infrastructure.
- Install, replace, calibrate, test, and maintain residential and commercial water meters.
- Repair water main breaks, service lines, valves, hydrants, pumps, and related
- Perform preventive maintenance on utility facilities, equipment, and machinery.
- Monitor water quality through system flushing, sampling, chlorine testing, and pressure maintenance activities.
- Operate utility vehicles, heavy equipment, power tools, and specialized maintenance equipment.
- Read maps, blueprints, and GPS data to locate and maintain utility assets.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and work orders.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, regulations, and work zone traffic control requirements.
- Respond to emergency calls, water service interruptions, and utility repairs as part of the on-call rotation.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational training in water utilities, construction, plumbing, electrical systems, mechanics, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in water distribution, underground utility construction, equipment operation, plumbing, or maintenance work is preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Water Distribution Operator certification is a plus.
- Must pass a drug screening
- Experience in water distribution system maintenance, water main repairs, service line installation, valve maintenance, and hydrant flushing.
- Knowledge of water quality sampling, chlorine residual testing, and distribution system operations.
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, forklifts, dump trucks, tractors, and other utility maintenance equipment.
- Ability to read utility maps, blueprints, and GPS data for locating and maintaining infrastructure assets.
- Mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working in utility construction, underground utilities, public works, or a related field.
- Florida Water Distribution Operator certification (or the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire).
- Experience responding to emergency repairs and participating in an on-call rotation.
- Certification in Maintenance of Traffic (MOT), Confined Space Entry, First Aid/CPR, or other utility-related safety training is a plus. (Not listed in the qualifications but strongly supported by the duties described.)
