Starting Salary: $1,765.01 bi-weekly. (In accordance with current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into this position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee s current rate, whichever is higher.)

Description
This is work providing social services to assist in rehabilitation of juvenile law offenders in custody or on probation or parole. Incumbents make recommendations for actions involving formulation of rehabilitation plan and treatment of offender, including conditional release and education and employment stipulations.

Responsibilities
  • Case Management, Referrals, Recommendations and Assessment – Initiate contact with the youth, family, victims, and law enforcement when referrals are received by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (FDJJ). Conduct home and school visits as part of information gathering and family involvement.
  • Obtain and review collateral information such as abuse and neglect history, educational, mental health, substance use, gang activity and other pertinent information from other involved agencies.
  • Conduct and document FDJJ screening(s) to identify risk/needs, protective factors and/or need for further evaluations (e.g., detention screening, intake screening, Suicide Risk Screening Instrument, and other approved instruments).
  • Formulate case management strategies based on assessments to address youth and family needs.
  • Make service referrals and follow-up actions; provide supervision and treatment recommendations to the State Attorney and other judicial partners for least intrusive services.
  • Complete screening instruments and reports used by the department and/or courts (e.g., DRAI, SRSI, risk/needs instruments, case plans, and related reports).
  • Court Process – Act as the DJJ representative during court hearings to support the department’s recommendations for youth, family, and community. Prepare and maintain social histories, court reports, referral letters, and related correspondence. Testify at hearings when appropriate. Prepare affidavits/petitions for Violation of Probation when applicable. Request hearings as appropriate.
  • Case Management, Interventions & Supervision – Complete risk/needs assessments using department-approved instruments for all youth screened/supervised. Conduct face-to-face contacts in home, school, and community settings (including non-traditional hours). Maintain communication for all stages of involvement; gain knowledge of youth residence and environment by meeting in various locations. Arrange mental health, substance abuse evaluations and other tests/treatments as needed. Assist youth with school enrollment and attendance verification.

    Provide crisis intervention and referral follow-up. Work with youth on personal goals and milestones; discuss projected timelines for completion of goals and supervision terms as ordered by the court. Respond to concerns and risks by staffing cases with the unit supervisor; determine interventions based on policy and statutes. Conduct staffing at milestones or complex cases and participate in transition/exit planning including post-residential referrals.
  • Records Management – Enter all case management activities into JJIS, including risk/needs screening, assessment, and case planning. Upload required forms/documents into JJIS per rules.
  • Community Collaboration – Be familiar with community resources, provide input on provider service delivery and grant-related proposals if requested. Attend and participate in professional development trainings and meetings.…
