Sr. Accountant

Description

Our client in the Westchester County NY area has an immediate contract opening for a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant will manage key accounting functions, ensure tax compliance, and contributing to process improvements within a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate taxation and general accounting, with the ability to handle complex financial operations and reporting.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy and completeness.

- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and precise reporting.

- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and accruals.

- Analyze financial results, providing detailed variance explanations for management reporting purposes.

- Prepare federal, state, and local tax filings, including sales/use tax, franchise tax, and property tax, while ensuring compliance with regulations.

- Collaborate with external tax advisors to assist in income tax provision preparation and filings.

- Respond to audits and inquiries from regulatory bodies, maintaining detailed documentation for compliance purposes.

- Support accounts payable and receivable processes by reviewing transactions, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring timely payments and collections.

- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls.

- Participate in system upgrades and automation initiatives to streamline accounting workflows.

Requirements

- At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within wholesale, distribution, or manufacturing industries.

- Demonstrated expertise in multi-state taxation, corporate tax filings, and sales/use tax compliance.

- Proficiency in accounting software such as Net Suite or similar platforms.

- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis capabilities.

- Familiarity with inventory costing and transactional accounting processes.

- Strong understanding of general ledger functions and month-end close procedures.

- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights
