Manhattanville University is seeking an adjunct professor to teach Foundations of Sustainability in the Fall 2026 semester (8/31/26 through 12/18/26). If the Fall semester is successful, there will be the possibility of future employment.
Course FormatThe course will be scheduled to run fully in-person in the Fall at Manhattanville University on Thursdays, 8:25-10:55. Course size: 25 or less.
Course DescriptionThis course offers an introductory overview of sustainability and its growing integration into finance, business, and economic decision‑making. Students will explore the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) dimensions of sustainability and examine how financial systems, corporations, and public institutions incorporate these considerations into strategies, investments, and policies. Students will learn how environmental and social factors affect business performance, risk, and valuation;
how governance structures shape accountability; and how investors, regulators, and stakeholders use ESG information. The course emphasizes conceptual understanding rather than being technical. Through case studies, real‑world examples, and interactive discussions, students will learn how sustainability and ESG principles are shaping corporate behavior, investment decisions, and global markets. The course is designed for students from all disciplines who are interested in understanding the role of finance in addressing social and environmental challenges.
No prior knowledge or prerequisites are required, making the course accessible to students from all academic backgrounds.

Duties/Responsibilities- Prepare and teach well‑organized classes and present other learning opportunities for students in accordance with student learning outcomes for the course.
- Create and share syllabus/syllabi with students and Dean's Office. This must be posted on the University's Learning Management Software (LMS), Brightspace.
- Post assignment grades in Brightspace for students to track their academic progress.
- Hold two hours of office hours for students (this can be a mix of in‑person and online).
- Use Manhattanville email for correspondence with students, faculty, and staff; respond to email in a timely fashion.
- Submit roster reconciliations, mid‑term and final grades by appropriate deadlines. File retention alerts when student concerns arise.

Education:
Master’s Degree in Economics, Finance or other related field.
Experience:
Previous teaching experience.
Physical Requirements:

Salary: $3,375 - $3,675 per semester.
Hours ExpectationTeaching time: 2.5 hours/week per course taught.
Office hours: 2 hours/week.
Housing is not provided.
