【Position】

Full-Time Bilingual School Counselor

【Summary】

The School seeks to appoint a bilingual English and Japanese Full-Time School Counselor. The ideal candidate has experience providing counseling in a school setting and a demonstrated ability to develop and implement a wellness curriculum that serves students, faculty, staff, and the broader school community. This position is full-time and on‑campus at our boarding school in Purchase, NY.

【Qualifications】
  • Bilingual fluency in Japanese and English (spoken, read, and written)
  • Appropriate New York State Licensure/Certification (e.g., LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, etc.)
  • Master's degree or higher in School Counseling, Social Work, or related field
  • Experience providing individual and/or group counseling to adolescents
  • Demonstrated experience developing or leading a wellness or social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Have a good sense of humor
  • Proactive, flexible, warm, steady, and developmentally attuned to students
  • Committed to fostering students' independence, resilience, and self-awareness
  • Ability to design programming that serves a diverse community, including students, faculty, staff, and families
  • Familiarity with the cultural and social-emotional needs of Japanese students studying abroad is preferred
  • Experience in a boarding school or residential setting is preferred
【Essential Duties】 【Counseling Services】
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students
  • Manage crisis intervention and emergency mental health support
  • Coordinate referrals to outside mental health professionals
  • Communicate with students, parents, and staff in both Japanese and English
  • Collaborate with the Health Center to support students' mental health and well‑being
  • Support students when referrals are made to outside mental health professionals, including chaperoning students
  • Conduct Counseling Orientation Sessions for new students during the Pre‑Entry Program in the last week of August, and assist with the transition of new students
【Wellness Curriculum & Community Programming】
  • Design and implement a school-wide wellness curriculum serving students, faculty, staff, and the broader school community
  • Develop workshops, programs, and resources that address mental health, resilience, and well‑being across the entire school community — not limited to student support
  • Develop culturally responsive content addressing the unique needs of a boarding school community
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to embed wellness themes across school programming, professional development, and community events
  • Evaluate and revise programming based on feedback from students, faculty, and staff
【School Duties】
  • Participate in department/faculty meetings, assemblies, and official school events
  • Serve on committees and in school roles as assigned by the School before the new school year starts
  • Full‑Time Faculty members, including counselors, are informed of the Saturday/Sunday/Holiday Duty schedule on campus before the start of the new academic year
  • Full‑Time Faculty members, including counselors, are expected to undertake any other related tasks as the School may reasonably request
【Working Hours, Working style】

Monday / Wednesday / Friday: 8:15 AM – 5:00 PM

Tuesday / Thursday: 8:15 AM – 6:00 PM

The Counseling Department is “On Call” weekday evenings and weekends for emergency or urgent needs while the School is in session.

【Salary, Benefit】

Salary $55,000 – $75,000 (Depends on Experience)
