POSITION:
Special Education Para educator
* Full-Time: 35 hours per week
* Transition Program
Putnam Public Schools is seeking an innovative, motivated, and community-minded Special Education Para educator for our Transition Program. The ideal candidate will collaboratively support young adults as they develop independence, vocational skills, and functional life skills. We are looking for someone who can creatively reinforce a caring, supportive environment that prepares students for a successful transition into adulthood.
Putnam Public Schools fosters a strong, collaborative culture of caring educators. Our Transition Program specifically focuses on community integration, job training, and independent living skills, ensuring our young adults are comprehensively prepared for the real world.
MAJOR
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide direct vocational, life-skills, and social-emotional support to young adults within a specialized transition program.
* Assist in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Transition Plans under the guidance of certified special education staff.
* Support students in community-based settings, which may include job sites, public transportation, and community outings to build independent living skills.
* Facilitate small group and one-on-one instruction focusing on functional academics, workplace readiness, and daily living skills.
* Collaborate closely with transition coordinators, special education teachers, job coaches, and community partners to foster a consistent, growth-oriented environment.
* Implement positive behavior strategies and support students in self-advocacy and emotional regulation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High School Diploma or GED equivalent
* Successful completion of the Para Pro Assessment OR at least 60 college credits from an accredited institution.
* Experience working with adolescents or young adults in a school, vocational, or community setting preferred.
* Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering independence and self-advocacy in young adults.
* Ability to follow directions from certified staff, maintain a high degree of professionalism, and ensure strict confidentiality.
START DATE:
August 24, 2026
RATE OF PAY: $20.36 - $22.50 per hour
* based on contractual requirements
