Long-Term Substitute Teacher Grade 3
Putnam Elementary School is seeking a highly professional and collaborative long-term substitute teacher to lead a grade 3 classroom for the upcoming fall term. The successful candidate will assume full instructional and classroom management responsibilities; including lesson design, student assessment, and progress monitoring. We are looking for a dedicated educator who can seamlessly maintain academic rigor, implement differentiated learning strategies, and foster a supportive, structured environment where all students in the classroom can thrive.

Major duties and responsibilities:
- Instructional leadership:
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons across core subjects (reading, writing, math, science, social studies) aligned with Connecticut standards. - Classroom management:
Maintain an organized, safe, positive, and structured classroom culture rooted in mutual respect and clear routines. - Assessment & monitoring:
Monitor student progress, grade assignments, and utilize formative assessments to differentiate instruction for diverse learning needs. - Collaboration & communication:
Partner closely with the grade 3 team and specialized support staff. Maintain professional, proactive communication with families regarding student progress.
Minimum qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required. - Certification:
Valid Connecticut teaching certification (or documented eligibility) in one of the following endorsements is highly preferred: endorsement 305: elementary education (grades 16) endorsement 113: elementary education (grades n3). - Skills:
Strong classroom management skills, familiarity with elementary curricula, and the ability to seamlessly step into an established team framework.
Dates: approximately August 24, 2026 November 14, 2026
Rate of pay: $160.00 per day beginning on day 41, a certified substitute teachers' rate of pay will be based on the first step of the teachers' contract.
